Looking for Mr. right roller furler

I am in the market for a good furler for the O’Day 22. There are only a handful that I can find so far that are within a reasonable price range.

CDI flexible furling
Schaefer Snapfurl
Aladous Nautica

All the other one seems to be almost double the price of the above 3 choices. Does anyone know of other brands between the 400 to 700 price range? I have posted a message in the forum asking for people’s opinions so please contribute if you have any expertise in this area. Thanks.

Chris from OnlineOutboards.com fixes the defective outboard

For those of you who have followed my journey to refit this boat, you already know the problems I had with getting a working outboard motor for this boat. First it was a flakey vendor from New York who charges me but won’t ship me the motor, then it was a great deal on an outboard and promptly delivered but defective. Chris who is the sales manager at onlineoutboards.com was able to ship me a replacement immediately and covering freight both ways. It finally works and I am very pleased with what I have. I had been wondering what actually was the problem with the defective motor since I sent it back. Chris just got back to me with the latest update. It was an iginition coil failure. Not that I would have ever thought to check that or have a replacement to pop in real quick. I am glad however that Chris was able to diagnose the problem and fix the issue. He was able to find another buyer for the reconditioned motor and hopefully everyone is happy. If you are looking for a new outboard motor, give Chris a call at OnlineOutboards.com. Tell him Dan sent ya!

Porpoise Sails fell through

Wayne at Porpoise Sails called me today after he got back from out of town and gave me some bad news. He checked the shipment from his Thai supplier and my mainsail was not in it. That is a bummer because I had wanted to get it for this weekend. I am down to just a few options. I guess the old saggy sail will have to last a few more trips. I did start to worry a bit about the luff being 6 inches shorter. Now I can order one thats just what I need. I went crawling back to D & R Marine and talked to Rudy on the phone. I had canceled my order with him about 5 weeks ago thinking that I will get one from Porpoise Sails for cheaper and faster. Boy did that back fire in a big way. Rudy said he had gotten his shipment 2 weeks ago and his customers are already out sailing with them! Lucky for me he has 4 more in stock and will be able to get me one next week. Rudy comes through again…

Airguide Marine Compass I bought from eBay

I just got a compass I bought in the mail today. This is another one of those cases of misjudging the size of items on eBay. I actually like this compass and believe it will work very well. It is a new, old stock from the original box. The box looks like it is from the 1960’s but the compass looks brand new and never mounted. There is not a scratch on this thing and seems to point really well. It is a little big for my boat. Look at the photo below. I placed a lighter next to it for a little reference.

Getting the new mainsail this weekend

Wayne from Porpoise Sails called this morning and told me that he would be back in Sarasota this Thursday and would get the sail out to me either overnight or 2-Day. That means I will have it this weekend. Can’t wait.
